Tacloban City - State universities and colleges in Eastern Visayas will educate students about the influenza A(H1N1) virus and dengue at the opening of classes on Monday.
Dr. Virgildo Sabaldo, dean at the University of the Philippines in Taclocan City, said the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has issued memoranda to state universities and colleges to start the first day of school with lessons on the new flu virus and dengue.
Sabaldo said faculty members have been asked to tell students facts about the two viruses. Lessons would also include how the students can avoid catching the new influenza and how potential infected students should do to avoid transferring it to other people.
"Aside from A(H1N1) advisory, we will also discuss the dengue. Dengue is most prevalent during rainy seasons," he said.
Sabaldo said the university's "health facilities" have been prepared for the incoming students.
