BACOLOD CITY - The 17-year-old De La Salle University (DLSU) student who went home to Bacolod and was found positive for influenza A (H1N1) was discharged from the hospital on Friday.

Dr. Glen Alonsabe, head of the Department of Health's (DOH) Regional Epidemiology Center 6 in Iloilo City, said the patient was given five days of medication, which is set to end on Sunday.

He explained that after receving the anti-viral drugs, the patient will be throat swabbed again to ensure that she no longer has the virus.

The DLSU student is the first and only case of influenza A (H1N1) in Bacolod city, as of posting.

The Department of Health (DOH) in Region 6 said the patient contracted the virus from the DLSU index case, a foreign student of DLSU Taft campus.

She was in Bacolod City already when the result of her throat swab test from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) came out.

Her family has undergone self-quarantine, and none has been infected, according to the DOH.

Meanwhile, a suspected case of a 7-year-old with flu-like symptoms does not have H1N1 and is no longer a under observation.
