BATANGAS -- Three people drowned after being swept away by waves in a beach in Calatagan, Batangas on Thursday.
The victims were identified as Ronald Cordero, 45, his daughter, Therese Maria, 17, and Josea Jizo Pinto, 17.
Based on police investigation, around 14 people were swimming in a private resort owned by a certain Joey Marquez. Some were accompanied by their parents.
According to the victim's companions, a huge wave swept them away from the shallow part of the beach.
Most of them were able to swim back to the shore, but Josea and Therese were not as successful.
Therese's father, Ronald, tried to save the two but he also drowned.
Ronald and Therese were already dead when they were found past 3:00 Thursday afternoon.
Pinto, who was previously reported missing, was found lifeless near the shore Friday morning. -- report from Paul Hernandez, ABS-CBN News Southern Tagalog
