MANILA - Fire razed over 20 classrooms at the Malolos Immaculate Conception School for Boys in Barangay Sto. Rosario, Malolos, Bulacan before dawn on Friday.
The fire broke out at the school's elementary department at around 3 a.m., the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said.
The blaze reached the 3rd alarm before it was declared under control at around 5 a.m.
A small portion of the high school department and the back part of Malolos Cathedral were also affected by the fire.
The cost of damage caused by the incident was estimated at P20 million.
According to Monsignor Pablo Legaspi, the Malolos Immaculate Conception School for Boys, which was built in 1937, is made up of light materials -- the reason why the blaze quickly spread in the classrooms.
Authorities have yet to identify the cause of the blaze.
Over 1,000 students of the school's elementary department were affected by the incident.
The school is now asking the local government to allow them to use the sports convention center as their temporary classroom. -- Report from Kiko Faulve, ABS-CBN News
