MANILA, Philippines – Military officials said they have overrun a New People's Army camp in a mountainous area of Barangay Buri, Tapaz, Capaz earlier this week.

The camp is believed to have housed member and officials of the Panay Regional Committee of the NPA.

Officials said soldiers killed 2 rebels in last Monday’s clash, but their bodies were taken by their comrades.

The military seized several firearms, explosives, laptops, documents and other belongings at the camp.

More soldiers were deployed in the area in preparation for a possible retaliation by the communist rebels.

The NPA is the military arm of the Communist Party of the Philippines, which has been waging one of Asia’s longest-running insurgencies. – report from Nony Basco, ABS-CBN News Iloilo
