assuming the squad really exists, then what?
will there be similar barrage of news stories and media coverage like these, apparently fighting for the rights of the oppressed and families of victims, when the gangsters and drug pushers are all back on the streets of davao city?
will de lima visit davao and urge the city officials by then to put a stop to the criminal acts that are a result of the drug menace in the society?
will CHR fight for the rights of innocent civilans who get killed (and by the way, are also humans) by the uncanny acts of drug addicts?
ever wonder why the people of davao city seem to have accepted all the vigilante-style killings? ever wonder why you don't get any witness? i reckon it's not because the people are afraid but because the people embraces the reality with both arms. because the people of davao city know that if no group exists to get rid the society of criminals, then the burden lies in their own hands.
for a people which is used to live in a peaceful place like davao city --- where the only existing "human rights" are the rights of people who do not kill innocents out of money, lust, or drugs --- the absence of a group which apparently takes the lead in purging the city of its criminal elements would mean taking matters and the guns into their own hands. either case, you still would not have put an end to all the extrajudicial killings that have been serving a majority of the people in davao city at best.
fight for the rights of the innocent, not the criminals.
