122 Grade 3 pupils fall ill in Bacolod City

An elementary school in Bacolod City suspended classes on Tuesday after 122 Grade 3 pupils caught fever.

Marilou Geraldoy, principal of the St. John's Institute, said classes have been suspended until Wednesday. She clarified that only Grade 3 classes were suspended.

Geraldoy said several Grade 3 pupil started getting sick last Friday. Majority of the sick students failed to come to school on Monday, she said.

She said the Bacolod City Health Office has advised the school to monitor the conditions of the pupils, who may have been infected with influenza A (H1N1) virus.

Dr. Salome Binas, city health officer, said they have yet to determine if any of the pupils had history of travel to a country with confirmed A (H1N1) cases. With a report from Yasmin Pascual-Dormido, ABS-CBN Negros
