Lightning kills fish cage worker in Batangas

Batangas – A 27-year-old fish cage caretaker died after being struck by lightning in San Nicolas town in Batangas province, Tuesday evening, police said.
 
Senior Inspector Moises Espenelli, San Nicolas police chief, identified the victim as Rodel Azurias, a native of Barangay Wawa, Nasugbu, Batangas.
 
Espenelli said Azurias was busy fixing a fish cage in Taal Lake in Barangay Alas-As, when the lightning struck around 10:30 p.m.
 
Azurias died on the spot, suffering third degree burns.
 
Last May 27, another fish cage caretaker died and his co-worker injured when they were hit by a lightning in Talisay town.

Senior Inspector Ferdinand Ancheta, Talisay police chief, identified the fatality as 17-year-old Michael Cantelejo, a fish cage caretaker and resident of Zone 1, Barangay Poblacion.

Reports said the two victims were also busy fixing fish cages in Taal Lake when the lightning struck near them around 6:30 pm.

Ancheta said Cantelejo died on the spot and the other victim, Leo Argones, 25, suffered minor burns and lost consciousness.
