Imelda's birthday marks Marcoses' comeback in power
MANILA, Philippines - Imelda Marcos celebrated her 81st birthday earlier today in her late husband's hometown of Ilocos Norte.
The former First Lady, who is also the province's newly-elected representative for its second congressional district, was a picture of happiness as she once again displayed the grace and hospitality that made her name a legend in social circles.
"Maraming salamat at marami pa palang nagmamahal sa akin. It is special to be loved, but it's nicer to have more people to love," Marcos said.
The celebrations started with a mass at the Paoay Church, where after the mass the traditional Padapadakam - where the birthday celebrator was crowned with flowers - was held.
Food and drink overflowed at the party held for the supporters of the Marcoses.
Later in the day, a grander celebration was held for the VIPs who went to the province for Marcos's birthday.
Among those in attendance where Vice President Jejomar Binay, Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson, and Governor Gwen Garcia of Cebu.
In the evening, another event - a dinner-dance party - was held in Batac, which also doubled as the inaugural party for Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., and Governor Imee Marcos. With reports from Pia Gutierrez, ABS-CBN News, in Ilocos Norte
