Security forces dismantled an improvised bomb inside a bus terminal in Zamboanga City past 10 p.m. Friday before it could explode.

Chief Inspector Diomarie Albarico said a 17-year-old boy was cleaning the passenger bus when he discovered a black plastic bag left under a seat. He said the boy was alarmed to see batteries and wire sticking out of the package, prompting him to call the police.

Elements of the Zamboanga Bomb Squad confirmed that the plastic bag contained an improvised explosive device, which they quickly dismantled.

A certain SPO4 Resuento said the IED was a pipe-bomb triggered by a timer.

Bus conductor Ramil Fuertes said two women and a man were sitting on the bus seat before the bag was discovered. Fuertes said he did not see any of the three bring the bag inside the bus when they boarded at Pagadian City. The man sitting near the plastic bag was wearing a jacket and a cap, which slightly covered his face, while the two women, might have been a mother and a daughter.

Local authorities called on to the public to stay calm and vigilant as local terrorist groups in the region will continue to initiate their plans in destroying the peace and order of Zamboanga.
