The Arroyo administration on Friday reversed the findings of former Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez that dismissed charges filed against the suspected financier of a shabu laboratory in La Union.
Justice Secretary Agnes Devanadera said that, based on the review of the Office of the President, there is enough evidence to file criminal charges against Joselito Artuz alias George Cordero, the suspected financier of a big-time methampethamine laboratory in Barangay Bimmotobot in Naguilian, La Union. Police raided the laboratory last year and arrested Artuz as well as six Chinese nationals.
"Based on the review, there is evidence showing will participation of Artuz. Also, his name was mentioned by other witnesses," Devanadera said.
She said the people of San Fernando, La Union played a big role in the President's decision. She said no less than the parish priest of San Fernando wrote to President Arroyo and asked that Artuz be included as one of the accused.
Artuz was charged with conspiring in the manufacture of shabu as penalized under Article II of the Dangerous Dangerous Act of 2002. Devanadera said new prosecutors would be assigned to handle the case against the accused.
