Security troops arrested two suspected New People's Army's (NPA) bombers in Tayabas, Quezon on Thursday.

Chief Superintendent Perfecto Palad, Calabarzon regional police director, identified the suspected rebels as Emerson Abenilla and Cesario Santonia.

Palad said the suspects were arrested at a checkpoint manned by joint members of the Tayabas police and the Army's 1st Infantry Battalion in Barangay Ilayang Ipilan around 2 p.m.

Seized from the suspects were three backpacks filled with an improvised anti-personnel mine, two electrical blasting caps, two Apple type hand grenades and alleged subversive documents.

The NPA, the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines, has been waging an armed insurgency in the country for more than four decades. With a report from Noel Alamar, radio dzMM
