DAVAO CITY, Philippines - Davao City Vice-Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has urged her daughter, Mayor Sara Duterte, not to apologize to court sheriff Abe Andres for punching him in the face during the demolition of informal settlers' shanties in Agdao last Friday.

Instead, Duterte commended her daughter, saying she was doing her job.

He encouraged her to face whatever charges may be thrown her way.

Duterte said he is proud of his daughter, who should not be worried about losing her job and being disbarred. "You celebrate, be happy, at least with the thought na nagprotect ka sa mga tao," he added.

Mayor Duterte earlier apologized to judges and court employees, saying she was just carried away by her emotions.

Andres, meanwhile, also said that he too was just doing his job.

He added that he might be charged by the court if he decided not to implement the demolition order.

"Kakasuhan kasi nila ako, nade-delay na daw kasi, antayin ko nalang yung court advise kaya lang nung ginagawa na yung pagsusurvey, nagkagulo na. Hindi pa niya nalaman yung buong katotohanan. Gusto ko sanang magpaliwanag sana makarating sa kanya. As a lawyer, bilang abogado, dapat alam niya na hindi siya naghimasok. me rule kasi na sinusunod," Andres said.

He did not say if he will sue the mayor.

Mayor Duterte said she will take a 5-day leave beginning Thursday as the Department of the Interior and Local Government starts its investigation of the incident. - Report from Francis Magbanua, ABS-CBN News Southern Mindanao; ANC

Dangerous Mayor

If she can do that in front of the public and media...much more during off-cam...

Bad example.

We are supposed to learn good things from our fathers. They are supposed to have experience and wisdom. BUT NOT THIS ONE. A warlord acts as a police, judge, jury and prosecutor. A mayor of a supposedly civilized city should not act like warlord. Civility and respect for the rule of law should be the lessons that parents should impart to their children, not violence. This father is wrong, very wrong. The disturbing part is that both of them insist that what she did was justified. Nothing can justify that kind of violent behaviour in a civilized society. In a civilized society, a threat of violence is already an offence. As a society we must aspire to respect the rule of law, otherwise we will always remain to be this backward and violent third-world country.

On the aside, why are father and daughter monopolizing the two highest city offices? Don't we have laws that disallow this kind of monopoly? Why so much power in one family?

A wrong is always a wrong

Perhaps it is very easy for us to justify what Sarah did. But a wrong is always a wrong. Fortunately Sarah is a woman/ female/girl who happened to hurt a man/male/boy.

I wonder what could be the sentiments of the Filipino people, especially the Dabawenyos, should Sarah be a man/male/boy who punched a woman/female/girl sheriff, given the same situation?

Think of it mga kababayan, what do you think?

like father, like daughter

I hope it's not like father like daughter. or it will be like rido over again, and the cycle goes on. mindanao is famous for its rido. and I really hope vice mayor rodrigo duterte is not advocating along this line. these are modern times and we need modern solutions to today's problems. violence only begets violence. an eye for an eye and they'll all be blind. common sense must prevail.
