Grenades planted in CDO mall
Two grenades were planted in a mall in Cagayan de Oro City, the same day a bomb exploded in front of a church in Cotabato City that killed six people and wounded 30 others on Sunday, police said Tuesday.
Chief Inspector Marino Pungtilan, Cagayan de Oro City police's explosives and ordnance division chief, said the first grenade was found at the north entrance of the Limketkai Mall.
Pungtilan said the grenade was wrapped with a face towel and stuffed into a gift bag when found by the explosive and ordnance team on Sunday afternoon.
He said the man who planted the grenade could have had a hard time entering the mall because of metal detectors installed at the north entrance.
"Since he cannot penetrate he left the bag near the entrance and then left," theorized Pungtilan.
He said another bomb was found by policemen at the mall's second floor.
Police, meanwhile, could not say if the planting of the grenades was connected to the bombing of the Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral in Cotabato City on Sunday morning. With reports form Loren Luzon and Maricel Butardo, ABS-CBN Cagayan de Oro
