'Attacks won't stop ARMM voters' registration'
MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang said it will not be deterred by attempts to disrupt the registration of voters in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
The Palace issued the statement following a report that eight soldiers providing security for the voter’s registration were wounded in a bomb explosion in Sumisip, Basilan.
President Aquino signed Memorandum Order number 42 deputizing law enforcement agencies to secure the registration.
“We would be ready to deter any possible plans to do that. Ang focus natin really is we want to cleanse the voters’ list,” deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte told reporters.
The Palace has pushed for the cleansing of the voters’ list, believing it will help pave the way for clean elections in the ARMM.
“That would be good because finally, we want an honest-to-goodness voters’ list in that region,” Valte said.
