MANILA, Philippines – A woman died, while 10 others were slightly injured after a 10-wheeler delivery truck side-swept their van at Del Rosario Village, Pamplona town in Camarines Sur on Sunday morning.

Ramon Casilihan, the van's driver, said they were traveling towards the direction of Naga City, when they already noticed the speeding truck from afar.

The truck’s driver, Melecio Crespino, said he was forced to swerve towards the van’s lane because a jeepney immediately in front of it made a sudden stop.

The van tried to avoid the truck, hitting a street light post in the process.

Pamplona police said the truck was indeed travelling at a fast speed, as indicated by skid marks measuring up to 170 meters long.

Crespino, who was on his way to Lucena City to deliver liquor, is now detained at the Pamplona Police precinct.

Crespino, who is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide, multiple injuries and damage to property, has offered a settlement with the family of the victims.

The injured passengers, on the other hand, are now being treated at a nearby hospital.
