Cafgu killed in rockslide in Maguindanao

MANILA, Philippines – A member of the Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) from the 38th Infantry Battalion (IB) was killed in a rockslide in Brgy. Semba, Datu Odin Sinsuat town in Maguindanao Monday morning.

The victim, identified as CAFGU active auxiliary Norman Garcia, was preparing for refresher training in a firing range at a quarry site when huge rocks fell on him.

The 42-year-old Garcia was rushed to Camp Siongco Hospital but died after two hours.

Army's 38th IB Commander Col. Bernie Langub said no one is to blame for Garcia's death as it was an accident.

The military has extended financial assistance to Garcia’s family.

Garcia served 8 years as a CAFGU member and was assigned at a detachment in Brgy. Tapian. -- Report from Lerio Bompat, ABS-CBN News Central Mindanao
