MANILA, Philippines – A low pressure area (LPA) hovering over the Pacific Ocean may intensify into a tropical depression in the coming days, the state weather bureau said on Wednesday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA was last spotted 830 kilometers east of central Luzon.

PAGASA expects the weather disturbance to develop into a tropical depression either Thursday or Friday.

If it does, the weather disturbance will be named “Ferdie,” the second tropical cyclone to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility this month.

The LPA will continue to draw scattered showers and thunderstorms over southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

In Metro Manila, a lot of sun is expected Thursday morning with a 90 to 100 % chance of rains beginning 3 p.m. extending until the evening. -- With a report from ANC
