Journalist shot in the face by robbers dies
MANILA, Philippines (1st UPDATE) - Veteran journalist and former Philippine Tourism Authority general manager Nixon Kua died Monday night, one of his close friends said.
Kua, who was shot in the face by robbers Saturday afternoon, died around 10:35 p.m., according to Benny Antiporda, former president of the National Press Club.
Kua, a former Philippine Star reporter, was with his daughter at Ayala Greenfields, Makiling Highlands, Barangay Maunong, Calamba City when they were robbed and shot.
The robbers escaped with the bag of Kua's daughter that contained P90,000.
Three of the 4 suspects were identified Monday by witnesses, according to Laguna police director Senior Superintendent Gilbert Cruz.
He said Kua's family identified them as John Rey Cortez, Darwin Saniano, and Noel Garcia, who are all residents of Barangay Maunong.
He said the suspects were identified through photos shown to the victims' relatives who saw the robbery incident.
Cruz said the suspects also have a pending rape case.
A manhunt has been launched against the trio, who are believed to have gone into hiding. - with a report from Henry Atuelan, dzMM
