3 killed in Lucena bank heist

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – Three security guards were killed in a bank robbery in Lucena City, Quezon Thursday afternoon.

Police investigations showed that employees of United Coconut Planters Bank (UCPB) in Lucena were bringing cash to an armored van when a group of armed men onboard a Toyota Innova attacked them at around 3 p.m.

A gunfight ensued between the suspects and the guards, leaving Joel Barrameda, Roldan Consigna and Mario de Guzman dead.

Sr. Supt. Valeriano de Leon, provincial director of the Quezon Police Provincial Office, said apart from robbing the bank, the suspects also robbed the bank’s customers.

The suspects then escaped using the Toyota Innova, which was later recovered by police in Lucena.

Police have yet to determine the exact amount taken by the suspects.
