Imelda Marcos downplays DQ rap before House tribunal
MANILA, Philippines - Former First Lady and current Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Marcos on Friday said she is ready to face a disqualification case filed against her before the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal (HRET).
In an interview, Marcos said she is ready to serve her fellow Ilocanos as evidenced by her landslide win in the province's 2nd district in the May elections.
Atty. Mariano Nalupta Jr. and his lawyer filed the case before the House of Representatives after Nalupta lost to Marcos in the May poll.
In the complaint, the petitioners said Mrs. Marcos failed to meet the 1-year residency requirement to be able to run for an elective post in the province. They said Marcos only registered as a voter of Batac City on October 2009, just 7 months prior to the May 10 elections.
Other members of the Marcos family also gained elective posts in the May polls. Imelda's son, Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., was elected senator while eldest child Imee, won the gubernatorial seat of Ilocos Norte.

Better government
Assuming Nalupta will better serve his constituents and the Philippines, I hope Imelda is disqualified.
