CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – Jealousy may have driven a farmer to rape and hack a woman into two pieces in Pagalungan, Cagayan de Oro on Wednesday.

Reynante Luminda, who was killed in a shoot out with arresting officers, reportedly killed 20-year-old Rubie Jane Abalde, whose chopped up body was found on the fields of Sitio Inayao in this city on Friday.

Luminda allegedly confessed to killing Abalde to his live-in partner, Violeta Abrangan.

Abrangan said Luminda believed she was having an affair with the victim's father.

“Nagselos s’ya. Akala nya may namamagitan sa amin at ng ama ng dalaga. Siya [Rubie] lang ang napagbalingan ng sama ng loob ... Para syang [Reynante] nawawala sa sarili," said Abrangan.

Police said Abalde was reported missing for nearly 2 days.

Investigators believe that the victim may have run into Luminda while the latter was tending his fields.

Abalde was found on Friday after a massive search. Her naked body was hacked at the waist and cut into two.

Police immediately launched a pursuit operation against Luminda, who tried to fight off his pursuers.

"Nakigpag-draw at naghamon pa ito sa isang tao ko. D’un na nagkaputukan at naunahan," said Superintendent Danilo Tumanda, arresting team leader.

Recovered from the suspect were several anting-ating (amulets), a rifle and a bolo.

Police said Luminda was released in 2007 from the Davao Penal Colony where he was jailed for frustrated murder.

Forensic expects are now conducting an autopsy on Abalde's body to check if she was raped before being slain.
