3 killed, 2 hurt in Basilan shooting

MANILA, Philippines – Three people were killed and two others were injured in a gunfight in Lamitan City, Basilan on Sunday afternoon, the National Disasater Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.

NDRRMC said the shootout occurred at around 5 p.m. near a detachment of the Philippine National Police – Special Action Forces in the city.

A separate report identified one of the fatalities as a grandson of Lamitan City Councilor Jaime Ortega, who is also a retired policeman.

Authorities have yet to identify the people and the motive behind the shootout.
