Umbra Kato's group launches attacks in Maguindanao
MANILA, Philippines - The group of Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) commander Ameril Umbra Kato has launched an attack in several towns in Maguindanao, a military official said.
Army spokesman Major Harold cabunoc said Army detachments in the towns of Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Datu Unsay, and Ampatuan were among those attacked.
A member of the Philippine Army was hurt in the incident.
The Philippine National Police and the Army said the exchange of gunfire was ongoing as of posting, especially in Ampatuan town, the site of the 2009 Maguindanao massacre.
Cabunoc said the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) was assisting government forces by serving as a blocking force and reporting the whereabouts of the BIFF, the separatist group’s breakaway faction. - ANC
