PNP chief names another suspect in Zambo airport blast
MANILA, Philippines - National Police chief Director General Jesus Verzosa on Tuesday identified another suspect in the Zamboanga City International Airport bombing that killed 2 men and wounded more than 20 people.
Verzosa identified the suspect as Adong Salakudin, a resident of Tongkil town, Sulu province.
He said that Salakudin was the person he initially identified as the "Yellow Man," who was seen with suspects Reynaldo Apilado and Hatimil Harun Yakob, before the bombing last August 5.
He said that the suspect was positively identified by Sulu Governor Abdusakur Tan, who has claimed that the bomb that exploded outside the Zamboanga City airport was meant for him.
The police chief said that Salakudin allegedly works for Tongkil Mayor Wahid Sahidula, husband of former Sulu Vice-Governor and now Sulu 2nd District Rep. Nur-ana "Lady Ann" Sahidula.
The police chief said Monday that based on a closed circuit television footage from the Imperial Hotel in Zamboanga City, "Yellow Man" was seen with Apilado and Yakob before the airport bombing.
He said that the man arrived at the hotel carrying a backpack, which was similar to the backpack carried by Apilado at the airport's arrival area.
Apilado died instantly after the bomb, which was allegedly placed in his backpack, exploded. Yakob died in hospital.
On Saturday, Verzosa said that the police would want to question Temoden Tulawie and Moamar Askali for their possible involvement in the blast.
He said that Tulawie and Askali, who both belong to political families in Sulu, are suspects in the assassination attempt against Tan on May 13 last year.
Police believe that the airport blast was not a case of suicide bombing, and that it was another assassination attempt on the Sulu governor. – Report from Noel Alamar, radio dzMM
