New witness in Maguindanao massacre testifies
MANILA, Philippines – A soldier took the witness stand on Thursday and testified that he saw the convoy, checkpoint and backhoe the day of the Maguindanao massacre in Ampataun, Maguindanao.
Army Corporal Zaldy Raymundo, who was based in Sitio Masalay the day of the massacre, testified that he heard on his intercom radio that 4 vehicles were stalled at a nearby checkpoint.
Raymundo said he then saw the convoy head towards the direction of Cotabato, while 7 other vehicles headed to Barangay Salman.
Raymundo also positively identified PO3 Felix Daquilos as the driver of one of the vehicles carrying police officers.
The lawyer for the families of Maguindanao massacre victims Atty. Harry Roque said Raymundo’s testimony will serve as corroborative evidence for what truly transpired on November 23, 2009.
Also present at the hearing were Andal Ampatuan Sr., Andal Ampatuan Jr. and Sajid Ampatuan.
One of the witnesses, identified as Esmael Amel Enog, failed to testify after he complained of stomach pains.
Raymundo and Enog will take the witness stand again next week, August 17. -- Report from Jorge Cariño, ABS-CBN News
