MANILA, Philippines - Tropical storm "Igme" has intensified into a typhoon as it continues to slowly move in a northward direction to Taiwan, the weather bureau said on Monday.

As of 4 p.m., PAGASA said Igme was located 310 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan.

“Igme” is now packing maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour near the center with gustiness of up to 160 kilometers per hour.

Storm warning signal number 1 remains hoisted over Isabela and Cagayan.

PAGASA said “Igme” will enhance the southwest monsoon, which will bring light to moderate rains over Luzon especially its western section.

PAGASA said estimated rainfall amount from “Igme” ranges from 5 to 15 millimeters per hour within its 550-kilometer diameter.

Authorities already warned small sea crafts not to sail into the eastern seaboards of central and southern Luzon due to the combined effects of the typhoon and the southwest monsoon.
