Cebu sea mishap death toll rises to 63
MANILA (UPDATE) – The number of fatalities in the collision between passenger vessel M/V St. Thomas Aquinas of 2GO Group Inc. and cargo ship Sulpicio Express 7 in Cebu has risen to 63.
Among the latest casualties are four children and an elderly person. Two of the children were swept to the shores of Cordova town while the two others were found by divers during an underwater search.
Meanwhile, authorities said 57 were still missing as of posting time.
Technical divers suspended search operations on Tuesday morning due to strong waves and high tide. They are expected to resume operations in the afternoon.
A total of 831 people were on board the M/V St. Thomas Aquinas, 715 of whom were passengers while 116 were crew members, when it collided with Sulpicio Express Siete, last August 16.
