Hundreds of residents of Barangay Sangali, a village situated along Zamboanga City's east coast, benefited from free medical and dental services initiated by ABS-CBN Zamboanga Station on Saturday.

Most of those who lined up at the Sangali Fish Port Complex were treated for upper respiratory tract infection and skin diseases.

Dr. Dexter Bubuli, medical officer from the Police Regional Office-9, said unsanitary living conditions might cause an outbreak of skin diseases in the area. He noted that most of the residents are living below poverty line.

Capt. Rocky Perocho, medical officer from the Camp Navarro General Hospital, said lack of proper knowledge on how to keep oneself clean and healthy might also be a contributory factor to the high number of residents suffering from diseases.

Radzmu Osos, a resident, said she rushed to the Sangali Barangay Hall to register her child's name after hearing about the free medical and dental clinic over TV Patrol Chavacano on Friday.

Radzmu's son, Joemarickso, is suffering from asthma for months now. Radzmu said she has no money to bring her son to the clinic.

Another resident, Norhima Balasabas, also carried her 1-year old daughter Norfaija to the FishPort Complex to seek treatment for the girl's cough, rashes and lack of appetite.

A total of 102 persons availed of the free dental services while 267 availed of the free medical consultation and medicines. Ninety residents had their eyes checked for free by a private company selling reading glasses.

The Kalusugan Patrol was conducted with the help of the medical staff from Western Mindanao Command, Edwin Andrews Air Base, Police Regional Office-9 and some private doctors.
