Signal no. 2 up in Batanes

MANILA, Philippines – Storm signal number 2 has been raised over the Batanes group of islands as typhoon “Igme” continues to move towards Taiwan.

Although the typhoon has slightly weakened, state weather bureau PAGASA said 61 to 100 kilometers per hour (kph) winds will be felt in Batanes.

Igme was still packing maximum sustained winds of 130 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph.

In its 5 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said Igme was last spotted 290 kilometers (kms) northeast of Basco, Batanes.

The typhoon was expected to be 260 km north northeast of Basco, Batanes by Thursday afternoon, and 370 km north northwest of Basco, Batanes or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Friday afternoon.

As Igme continues to move away from the country at a speed of 7 kph, another typhoon with international name "Bolaven" was  located at 1,470 kms east of extreme northern Luzon.

The weather disturbance ws packing maximum winds of 140 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph.  

The extended rainband of the typhoon can bring rains to certain parts of the country while it moves westward, possibly headed to Taiwan.

If it does enter the PAR by Thursday, it will be called "Julian." -- With a report from ANC
