PAGASA: New cyclone in 2-3 days
MANILA – State weather bureau PAGASA on Friday said a cyclone may develop inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) within 2 to 3 days.
PAGASA said as of 4 a.m., a low pressure area (LPA) was spotted 870 kilometers east of Mindanao.
PAGASA forecaster Joey Figuracion said the LPA, moving in a northwest direction, may make landfall in the Visayas or Bicol region.
Figuracion said the cyclone is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon (habagat), which has been blamed for the torrential rains in Luzon this week.
If the LPA develops into a cyclone within PAR, it will be named "Nando."
For Friday, PAGASA said the southwest monsoon was still affecting Luzon.
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms, while Visayas will be have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rains and thunderstorms.
