UPLB security officer kills wife, then self
LAGUNA – A security officer killed his wife before killing himself in front of their 11-year-daughter on Wednesday, police said.
Police identified the security officer as Philip Oruga of the University of the Philippines-Los Baños (UPLB).
According to the report, Oruga and his wife, Joann, were heard by their neighbors arguing at around 11 p.m. in their residence in Tesalona Apartments in Barangay Bambang.
Moments later, a witness saw Joann running out of the house bloodied while Oruga was shouting invectives at her.
The residents then found the couple slumped in front of their house with stab wounds in their bodies.
Their neighbors rushed the couple to the nearest hospital but Joann was declared dead on arrival while Oruga died while undergoing treatment.
Investigators said the couple’s daughter witnessed the whole event, saying that her father stabbed her mother several times before stabbing himself in the chest.
Recovered from the crime scene was the knife used by Oruga in the incident.
Police said Joann was a former UPLB’s public relations officer before transferring to the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research Development-Department of Science and Technology.
