'Habagat' death toll rises to 25
MANILA – The number of fatalities in last week's torrential rains due to the enhanced southwest monsoon (habagat) has risen to 25, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.
The NDRRMC said three more fatalities were reported in Olongapo City, bringing the death toll to 25.
The latest fatalities, who all drowned, were identified as Archie Camueda (37 years old), Rafrael Lementil (43 years old), and Nazareth Dulao (15 years old).
At least 30 were injured while 3 remain missing.
The NDRRMC said 2,928,348 people were affected in 2,048 barangays by the monsoon rains which were enhanced by tropical storm "Maring."
The cost of damage to infrastructure was pegged at P138,139,781, while the agriculture sector lost P494,943,069.
