Signal no. 1 up over N. Luzon due to 'Nando'
MANILA – Public storm warning signal number 1 has been hoisted over three areas in northern Luzon due to tropical depression "Nando."
State weather bureau PAGASA said signal no. 1 is up over Batanes Group of Islands, Babuyan Group of Islands, and Cagayan, including Calayan Group of Islands.
Areas under signal no.1 should expect winds of 45 to 60 kilometers per hour.
PAGASA said "Nando" was spotted 480 kms east of Baler, Aurora as of 10 a.m. on Monday and was packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center.
"Nando" was moving northwest at 15 kph.
If it maintains its speed and direction, PAGASA said "Nando" may leave the Philippine area of responsibility on Thursday morning.
An estimated rainfall of 5 to 15 millimeters per hour (moderate to heavy) is expected within the tropical depression's 400-km diameter.
"Nando" is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon, bringing light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over southern Luzon, including Metro Manila, and Western Visayas.
PAGASA said sea travel is risky over the eastern seaboard of central and southern Luzon.
