MANILA, Philippines – A twister hit a village in Biliran and blew away the roofs of three school buildings in the province on Friday.
“Ang layo-layo ni (typhoon) Mina, pero apektado ang probinsa ng Biliran,” said Executive Director Benito Ramos of the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC).
Ramos said the twister caused damaged to an elementary school in a barangay in Biliran.
Ramos said it was fortunate that no one got hurt as schoolchildren have gone home when the incident happened.
“Tamang-tama naman wala ng estudyante. Dismissal na saka dumating yung buhawi. Lahat ng yero wala kang Makita,” he said.
Meanwhile, Undersecretary Graciano Yumul of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) said they had anticipated the incident as the likelihood of twisters occurring increases during thunderstorms.
-- dzMM
