MANILA, Philippines - Five people have been confirmed dead and 47 injured in another bus accident, this time in Pagbilao, Quezon.
A Cul Bus Transport passenger bus, with plate number TWV-912, fell off a cliff at around 2:45 a.m. on Sunday.
Police said the bus careened towards the cliff due to engine problems.
The bus came from Sorsogon and was supposed to head for Cubao in Quezon City. Police Senior Inspector Laudemer LLaneta admitted they had a hard time retrieving the victims because of lack of equipment. It took them about 8 hours to complete operations.
Only 1 of the victims has been identified: Milagros Eguia, a 63-year-old retired teacher from Tala Lora, Western Samar.
Police will file criminal charges for reckless imprudence resulting to multiple homicide and multiple physical injuries against the bus driver, identified only as 36-year-old Oscar Pedrigosa. – with reports from Ernie Manio, ABS-CBN News Southern Tagalog
