ILAGAN, Philippines – Eight people were injured when a 10-wheeler truck plowed through 11 vehicles in Ilagan, Isabela province on Wednesday.

Truck driver Elizer Aczon told police that he lost control of the vehicle after its brakes failed.

He is currently under police custody.

Police Officer 2  Bobby Tacad, who is investigating the case, said Aczon will face criminal charges.

The truck, which came from Sto. Tomas, was heading for Cauayan when the accident occurred.

Most of the victims were brought to a hospital and were released a few hours later.

They sustained only bruises and other minor injuries, police said.

Gerardo Pangilinan said his wife was hit by a motorcycle that was among the vehicles struck by the wayward truck.

He said the incident happened fast, and the victims did not have time to react. – with a report from Julius Camba, ABS-CBN News Cagayan Valley
