MANILA, Philippines - A businessman in Marawi City was allowed by his captors to briefly talk to his wife over the phone hours after he was abducted Tuesday morning.

Police said that according to the wife of Abdulcarim Magarang, the businessman was telling her that she should not worry and that he is fine when the line was cut off.

Police said the kidnappers did not mention any demands from the wife.

Magarang was snatched by 5 balaclava-wearing gunmen while he was on board a pedicab on Ampuan Street, Barangay Lilod Madaya around 6 a.m. The kidnappers hauled the victim to a waiting Honda Civic.

Magarang was on his way to Marawi City's public market. He owns a commercial building and a small restaurant in the city.

Police investigators have yet to identify the kidnappers. They have yet to determine if it was another case of kidnapping for ransom. -- report from Trini Velasco, ABS-CBN Northern Mindanao
