Bomb scare hits Ayala mall in Negros
MANILA – Mall goers were asked to leave the District North Point Ayala Mall in Talisay City, Negros Occidental Saturday evening because of a bomb scare.
This was confirmed by PNP provincial director Senior Superintendent Milko Lirazan and Tina Monfort, the operations manager of the Ayala Mall in Talisay.
Lirazan and Monfort said one of the mall’s security guards found a box at the back portion of the mall after there was a brownout at around 7:30 p.m.
A K9 sniffed the box and the dog’s gestures suggested that an explosive may have been placed in the box.
The Explosive and Ordnance Disposal Team of the Philippine Army was called and upon their inspection, it was discovered that the box contained cigarettes of an imported brand.
Investigators believe the box may have been stolen from the mall's grocery store during the brownout.
The incident did not cause panic among mall goers.
The mall's management said those inside the mall were advised to gradually leave the building after rumors about the bomb scare started to spread.
Police and mall officers assured the public need not worry because the incident was isolated and security measures are in place to protect mall goers from any groups that would take advantage of the situation in the light of bombing incidents in Mindanao. – report by Ragie Mae Tano-Arellano, ABS-CBN News Negros
