MANILA – A low pressure area spotted off the Philippines has high chance of intensifying into a tropical cyclone, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

PAGASA forecaster Connie Rose Dadivas said the LPA, located 770 kilometers east of Borongan, Eastern Samar as of 4 a.m., is likely to intensify into a tropical depression in the next 48 hours.

Once it becomes a tropical cyclone, it will be locally named "Kanor."

Dadivas said the potential cyclone might reach the storm category.

She said the weather disturbance will either hit the extreme northern Luzon or miss the Philippine landmass.

In its 24-hour weather forecast for Monday, PAGASA said Visayas and the regions of CARAGA, Northern Mindanao and Zamboanga Peninsula will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rains or thunderstorms, mostly in the afternoon or evening.
