Two cops fail lie tests as shabu lab probe continues
Two more policemen were relieved after failing lie detector tests conducted by a task force investigating the discovery of a shabu laboratory in Naguilian, La Union last July.
Chief Superintendent Romeo Gatan, chief of Task Force Bimmotobot, declined to name the two policemen. He said the two maybe "hiding something" about the shabu laboratory.
The discovery of the shabu laboratory last July 9 in Barangay Bimmotobot, led the police to eight truckloads of equipment and chemicals that can produce 180,000 kilograms of shabu.
Gatan said other policemen suspected of having knowledge in the shabu laboratory's operation will also be subjected to lie detector tests.
Some 55 policemen, including some high-ranking officials of the Ilocos regional police office and La Union provincial police office, have been relieved pending the task force's investigation.
Gatan believes that some policemen, who were part of the raiding team that discovered the shabu laboratory, may be exonerated after the investigations.
He said the raiding team members would have to undergo another set of lie detector tests and further investigation before being cleared.
Late last month, the Philippine National Police ordered the relief of Senior Superintendent Samuel Diciano, deputy director for operations of the Ilocos regional police office; Senior Superintendent Franklin Bucayu, chief of the directorial staff; and Superintendent Jaquilino Lagiwid, La Union police intelligence chief.
The three were assigned to other posts right after the formation of Task Force Bimmotobot. However, there were no confirmations if their relief was connected to the task force's investigation.
The task force was formed after Dante Palaganas, the arrested caretaker of the shabu laboratory, claimed that Superintendent Dionicio Borromeo, Dagupan City police chief, was involved in the facility’s operations.
Borromeo was replaced by Superintendent Sonny Versoza.
Palaganas also claimed that several policemen were involved in the shabu laboratory's operations. Carah Dulatre, ABS-CBN Baguio City
