NEGROS, Philippines – Two minors ended up dead in the town of Binalbagan, Negros Occidental following a dispute over a 5-peso bet in “labanang gagamba” or spider wrestling.

A 15-year-old suspect, "Peter" (not his real name), allegedly killed his playmate, 13-year-old "Juan" (not his real name), after losing a 5-peso bet to the victim last Monday.

(Editor's note: ABS-CBN's Code of Ethics prohibits the identification of minors involved in crimes.)

Probers said Peter sought the help of his cousin and uncle to bury Juan's body and cover up the crime.

Juan's body was later located at a shallow grave in Santol Village on Wednesday.

Upon learning of the incident, Juan's father immediately went to the suspect's house and hacked Peter to death.

Police arrested and jailed Juan’s father after the killing.

Peter's father refused to press charges, saying he has accepted his son’s fate.

Village officials assured that steps are being made to quell the dispute between the two families.

Police said they have an ongoing campaign against illegal gambling, including in spider wrestling.

However, they admitted it was hard to stop the activity since most of those involved in spider wrestling are minors. – With a report by Marty Go, ABS-CBN Negros
