Crocodile caught in Agusan del Sur
AGUSAN DEL SUR, Philippines – A 20 feet long and 3.5 feet wide female crocodile was caught in Barangay Nueva Era, Bunawan, Agusan del Sur Saturday night.
Sangguniang Panlalawigan Toto Elorde said the animal was captured through a trap they had set up.
The entrapment was led by Mayor Edwin Elorde.
The staff of the Philippine Crocodile-Manila is currently checking on the animal, which was temporarily placed in a pen.
Since several incidents have already been recorded in the area that these crocodiles are preying on carabaos, the Protected Areas and Wildlife Division (PAWD) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources permitted the local government to set up traps to capture the dangerous animals.
The PAWD, however, was strict in reminding the local government not to hurt the crocodiles since they are still animals that need to be protected.
Reports said a male crocodile is still on the loose.
Meanwhile, the residents are prohibited from going near the animal. – Report from Trini Velasco, ABS-CBN News Caraga
