3 dead in Batangas hotel robbery
MANILA – Three people died in a robbery incident inside a hotel in Batangas City before dawn on Wednesday.
Superintendent Nicolas Torre, chief of Batangas City Police, said two suspected robbers and a cashier died during the heist inside El Richland Travel Lodge in Barangay Sorosoro Karsada, Batangas City at around 2:45 a.m.
Torre said another suspected robber and two roomboys were wounded.
According to Torre, the travel lodge owner called the information desk of the lodge. Someone picked up the phone but he only heard the cashier's voice on the background, asking for help.
The travel lodge owner then heard several gunshots, prompting him to rush to the establishment.
"Umalis siya (owner) pero may nakalimutan siya kaya tumawag siya sa front desk. But this time 'di na sinasagot. Tawag siya ng tawag until somebody picked up the phone pero 'di nagsasalita. Ang narinig niya ngayon, on the background ang cashier nagsasabing 'tulungan niyo kami.' And then he heard a gunshot," Torre told dzMM.
On his way to the hotel, the owner chanced upon the suspects who were on board a motorcycle. He then fired shots and killed one of the suspects.
The two remaining suspects went back to the travel lodge, triggering a standoff as policemen arrived.
Torre said one of the suspects went to another compound and was wounded after being shot. The third suspect, allegedly the group's leader, hid inside the travel lodge's office and was fatally shot by police.
Torre said an identification card was recovered from one of the suspects.
The wounded suspect, meanwhile, was rushed to the hospital. Relatives of the suspect from Calamba, Laguna are already with him.
Torre said investigators will conduct a tactical interrogation on the suspect.
Torre said one of the guns recovered from the suspects was allegedly seized from the security guard of a restaurant in Tanauan City which was recently robbed. – report from Dennis Datu, dzMM
