Landslide kills 2 in Cebu
MANILA, Philippines – Two people died after heavy rains triggered a landslide in Naga City, Cebu on Tuesday evening.
Couple Dionisio and Juliana Villarmia died after their house in Sitio Pangilatan, Barangay Cantao-an was buried in a landslide around 6:20 p.m.
Juliana, 47, died on the spot after being hit by a boulder. Her body was recovered under the rubble at around 8 p.m.
Dionisio, 42, succumbed to his wounds at the Minglanilla District Hospital.
The couple's four children survived the landslide. They have been transferred under the care of the city's social welfare and development office.
The landslide incident occurred at the height of heavy rains in the province and parts of Luzon and Visayas on Tuesday evening.
State weather bureau PAGASA said a low pressure area spotted off Quezon Province is causing the heavy rains.
The LPA was spotted 80 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon as of 2 a.m. It is forecast to make landfall within the day and cross southern and central Luzon. Residents in low-lying areas are warned against possible flashfoods and landslides.
