ILOILO CITY, Philippines - A son of a barangay official in Iloilo City accidentally fired a gun into his mouth on Monday morning.

John Paul Espinosa, 28, was rushed to the hospital after playing with a gun. 

Espinosa, the son of barangay captain Pascual Espinosa IV of Brgy. San Juan, Molo, Iloilo City was having a drinking spree at home when the shooting incident happened.

According to  witnesses' statements to the Philippine National Police (PNP), Espinosa was holding an unidentified short firearm.

He jokingly placed the nozzle of the gun inside his mouth and accidentally fired it.

Authorities established that it was an accidental firing.

However, authorities could not find the gun, and nobody came out to claim ownership of the firearm used by Espinosa.

The victim underwent an operation and was still under observation  at the hospital.
