Kidnapped businesswoman freed in Sulu
MANILA -- A kidnapped businesswoman from Zamboanga City has been released after she was held captive for five months.
The victim, 39-year-old Nancy Gonato, was released by her captors in Jolo, Sulu Thursday afternoon.
She was flown by military chopper at around 11 a.m. Friday to Edwin Andrews Air Base in Zamboanga City, where she was met by her family.
Authorities said the local government unit of Sulu, military and police helped negotiate her release.
Gonato said no ransom was paid.
She also said that she was treated nicely by her captors.
Authorities suspect the Abu Sayyaf Group was behind the abduction.
Gonato and her business partner, Ronnie Sandagon, were abducted in Baliwasan Seaside, Zamboanga City last April 7.
Sandagon, who is a former municipal councilor of Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay, remains in captivity. -- Reports from Liezel Lacastesantos and Jewel Reyes, ABS-CBN News Zamboanga
