MANILA, Philippines – Sarangani Congressman Manny Pacquiao has confirmed his attendance in Ilocos Norte’s celebration of the late ex-president Ferdinand Marcos’ birthday, according to Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos.

Marcos said she has personally spoken with Pacquiao about the festivities for her father’s 93rd birthday on September 11.

She said the boxing champion will be the “guest of honor” for the event.

The Ilocos Norte governor said they were originally planned a simple celebration for Marcos Day, but Pacquiao’s attendance will make the event extra special.

This will be the first time for Pacquiao to visit Ilocos Norte after winning a seat in Congress. He is a frequent visitor of nearby Ilocos Sur, where his close friend, Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson resides.

Marcos said the invitation for Pacquiao to visit Ilocos Norte is non-political. She said they only hope that the boxing superstar will be able to inspire the Ilocanos. -- With a report from Hadji Rieta, ABS-CBN News Ilocos
