Datu Salibo mayor's house harassed, 1 hurt
MAGUINDANAO, Philippines – The compound of Datu Salibo Mayor Akmad Ampatuan was attacked by armed men Saturday night in Shariif Aguak town.
The mayor’s son, Engineer Marouf Ampatuan, was inside the house when the incident happened at around 10 p.m.
He said he heard an explosion followed by simultaneous burst of gunfire.
Authorities immediately responded and cleared the area.
Police investigation revealed that three M203 grenade were hurled and exploded at two different places -- one inside the Ampatuan compound, while the other two exploded near the house of a certain Nor Kalon, who works at the compound.
A civilian identified as Johari Mohammad, 15, who was then sleeping inside a waiting shed in the compound, wounded his leg.
Marouf said their family are suspecting that this incident has something to do either with his recent declaration to run for the vice mayoralty race in Shariff Aguak town or his father's plan for re-election as mayor of Datu Salibo.
Akmad Ampatuan is one of those charged in the Chainsaw Massacre.
Marouf admitted his father has a warrant of arrest.
"May warrant of arrest siya, pero inaayos na namin, hinihintay na lang desisyon ng korte. Ginagawaan namin ng paraan para malinis 'yung pangalan niya," Marouf said.
This is the second time the family was harassed.
The family said they will just leave the investigation to the authorities, as they appealed to those behind the harassment to stop saying they are already hurting people.
