PDEA spokesperson in Cebu shot dead
MANILA – A spokesperson of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for Region 7 (Central Visayas) was shot dead in Cebu City around midnight Sunday.
The victim, identified as Jessie Tabanao, was shot dead along Escario Street in Barangay Kamputhaw.
Tabanao had just come from his office and was supposed to prepare for his trip to Butuan for a new work assignment when the shooting occurred.
PO1 Michael Angelo Singson of Cebu City Police said Tabanao parked his car along Escario Street to get his things from the compartment when the gunman approached him and shot him at close range.
Tabanao sustained three gunshot wounds to his back.
The victim was also supposed to fetch his wife who attended an event when he was shot.
Police investigators have yet to determine whether Tabanao's killing is work-related.
PDEA regional director Lyndon Aspacio said they are also looking into the possibility that the killing had something to do with Tabano's work as a former radio reporter.
